Analogies and theories: The role of simplicity and the emergence of norms
We consider the dynamics of reasoning by general rules (theories) and specific cases (analogies). When an agent faces an exogenous process, we show that, under mild conditions, if reality happens to be simple, the agent will converge to adopt a theory and discard analogical thinking. If, however, reality is complex, the agent may rely on analogies more than on theories. By contrast, when the pr...
متن کاملon semihypergroups and hypergroups
in this thesis, first the notion of weak mutual associativity (w.m.a.) and the necessary and sufficient condition for a $(l,gamma)$-associated hypersemigroup $(h, ast)$ derived from some family of $lesssim$-preordered semigroups to be a hypergroup, are given. second, by proving the fact that the concrete categories, semihypergroups and hypergroups have not free objects we will introduce t...
15 صفحه اولARNOLD KOSLOW Ramsey on Simplicity and Truth
The two questions remain open questions at the end of the paper, but in the course of the discussion they are related to each other in ways that are surprising. It is his discussion of the interconnection of these two issues that reveals a hidden depth to Ramsey’s view of truth. His claim is that the idea that “true” is an incomplete symbol and the idea that the world is simple are part of the ...
متن کاملOn simplicity of vacuum modules
We find necessary and sufficient conditions of irreducibility of vacuum modules over affine Lie algebras and superalgebras. From this we derive conditions of simplicity of minimal W -algebras. Moreover, in the case of the Virasoro and Neveu–Schwarz algebras we obtain explicit formulas for the vacuum determinants. © 2006 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
